Figula 30 unites two key Hungarian grape varieties: Olaszrizling and Furmint, in equal proportions, originating from the highest vineyards of the wine region, from the limestone and marl parcels of the Gella vineyard. This blend is no coincidence, as both varieties play a key role in the history of Figula wines and in shaping their character. Olaszrizling is the defining grape variety of the Lake Balaton area, beautifully reflecting the terroir, while Furmint, beyond its Tokaj and Somló heartlands, is increasingly showcasing its versatility and elegance in the wine region. The harvest took place at the end of September and in early October, with the Olaszrizling bunches showing a significant amount of botrytis, which further enriched the wine's aromatic profile and concentration. Their fermentation occurred spontaneously with skin contact, followed by 10 months of ageing in used, 5-hectolitre oak barrels, which gently rounded out the wine's texture. In the case of the Furmint, the fermentation was also spontaneous, in stainless steel tanks without skin contact, and hence pressed immediately to avoid phenolic bitterness. Ageing also lasted 10 months, but in tanks.
The wine is an intense lemon-coloured white. The nose exudes beeswax, wet stone, herbs and white flowers. On the palate, it is broad and smooth, characterized by vibrant acidity and a layered structure. The finish is a cascade of salty, mineral and sweet notes, with an endless aftertaste. An exciting, multifaceted wine that simultaneously carries tradition and the experience of a great wine.
