2023 was a rainier year than usual, which raised questions for many of us. But maybe it also contributed to the fact that when we asked Misi Figula about his Sauvignon Blanc, he described 2023 as his best vintage to date. When we tasted it, we also felt immediately that a very special wine has been bottled this year: the high acidity and dry extract showed such a side of Balaton Sauvignon Blanc that we’ve mostly witnessed among New World wines. Intense both on the nose and the palate, it almost jumps out of the glass. Green pepper, cut grass and asparagus, with gooseberries hiding in the background. It’s particularly taut, and we recommend it as fresh as possible, well chilled.
