“The vineyard is a great love. My maternal grandmother often teased my father at Sunday lunch with the fact Olaszrizling must be picked separately by the individual vineyard. As a person born in Nyíregyháza, he didn't think that completely different wine is made from vineyards 800 metres apart. Still relatively soon, during the third or fourth vintage, he gave it a go and from then on it became a basic principle that we pick everything separately in each vineyard or parcel.” Mihály Figula.
The winery's first single-vineyard wines were made in 1995, the first vintage from the Sóskút was made eight years later, in 2003. In the Sóskút vineyard, located in Balatonszőlős, directly below the limestone quarry, no other plants can survive but grapes and almonds, so the stony, limestone character appears in the wine as well. The grapes were harvested from 50-year-old vines, fermented spontaneously in tanks, then aged in a 10-hectolitre, 26-year-old barrel for 6 months. It is characterized by a vibrant mouth-filling palate, with citrus, green pear and herbal notes, and a very long finish.
