Our Balaton selection brings a great classic of the new vintage, along with everything we love about it: subtle Olaszrizling notes, thirst-quenching sips, roundness and the warmth of the sun. “The 1998 vintage was the first Gellavilla. We made it without electricity, and for the Olaszrizling, I bought a 10-hectolitre barrel from a winemaker in Füred. Since then, no two vintages here have been the same – but I love each one just as it is,” says Attila Tálos (our colleague and founding owner of Bortársaság) about Gellavilla, where Olaszrizling has been a defining variety from the very beginning.
The stone cellar, built in 1799, is surrounded by nearly 7 hectares of vineyards, most of which were planted in 1972. The entire estate is cultivated using organic methods. This Olaszrizling is a well-balanced, elegantly composed wine. Neither too much nor too little. Its substance and fine flavours come not from barrel ageing or blended varieties, but from old vines, limited yields and the well-timed harvest. From this point, the process is very simple – it ferments in a cooled tank and matures on fine lees until bottling.
