Out of the seven hectares, one and a half hectares of the Balatonszőlős estate is planted with red wine varieties. In addition to Kékfrankos and Merlot, there’s a little Pinot Noir from Burgundy clones, grown right next to the old stone cellar. This 0.3- hectare plot is rarely used to make a stand-alone wine – in the last four vintages, they only made a single varietal wine from it in 2021.
Similar to the last (2019) vintage, this wine is once again led by the deeper colour, more substantial palate and mature flavours. The forest floor and mushroom notes characteristic of the variety also appear. Organic cultivation, manual harvest carried out in two rounds (September 25 and October 1). Straightforward winemaking, spontaneous fermentation in open vats, pressing with a traditional basket press, ageing in 3- and 5-hectolitre Hungarian barrels for a year. Unfiltered bottling in November 2022.
