“White Burgundy is the benchmark global brand; this is what we would like to measure ourselves against,” said György Lőrincz of Mária at the Japan Wine Challenge 2023, Asia’s oldest and most prestigious wine competition.
The fruit is harvested every year exclusively from their finest vineyard, Nagy-Eged Hill, Hungary’s highest-altitude vineyard site. A wine of true Eger character, it is a blend of Chardonnay and Furmint, fermented and matured in oak barrels for 10 months.
Golden in colour. On the nose, gently sweet spices, vanilla and hazelnut appear first, followed by apricot and quince. The palate shows pear, yellow-skinned apple, then the fine spices of the barrel, taut acidity and an endless finish.

The story of György Lőrincz and his family is a two-decade-long success story, during which they went from being a small winery to becoming an icon of the wine region, with international awards, a restaurant, a wine bar and emblematic wines. The Egerszalók winery focuses on local varieties and the terroir.
