The fruitiness of Kékfrankos and the spiciness of Syrah fused into one grape variety. This is the Feketeleányka (Fetească Neagră in Romanian), Transylvania’s indigenous black grape. There are records of its existence that date back 2,000 years but it’s only started becoming really popular recently – most of Transylvania’s newly planted vineyards of are Feketeleányka.
In the case of Kolna, it was spontaneously fermented in tanks, then it was aged in 50-hectolitre ászok barrels in order to show the most of the varietal character. Sour cherry, blackcurrant, blueberry and sweet spices.
