Géza Balla's vineyards are located 20 kilometres east of Arad, on Ménesi Hill, on the edge of the Great Plain. The soil here is rock-hard granite, diorite and argillite, with a thin, sometimes almost absent layer of topsoil. The viticulture is natural, and the popular variety is Feketeleányka (Fetească Neagră in Romanian), indigenous to Transylvania, from which this intensely flavoursome, subtly spicy wine with sour cherry and cranberry was also made. After destemming, it was fermented spontaneously, then aged in large, 50 hl ászok barrels.
