It’s rare in Hungary that several vintages of this variety are available from one winery, but at Etyeki Kúria they have been collecting and tasting the old vintages for years. Now, they’ve selected six Pinot Noirs from five vintages in order to show what this variety can do on Etyek’s limestone. Etyeki Kúria was a pioneer when they planted Pinot Noir vines in the Nagy Látóhegy vineyard in Alcsúdoboz in 2001, hoping that the variety that requires calcareous soil with good water-retention capacity would like it on the cooler, windy slopes of Etyek. Depending on the vintage, the wines spend 10-12 months in first-, second- and third-fill Hungarian and French oak barrels. In this selection, they packaged six wines from the 2012 vintage in an elegant wooden box, including some that are no longer on the market.
