Change is constant at Gyula Szabó’s winery; the joy of discovery and the exploration of new terroirs is eternal. Last year’s new development was the raw material harvested from two promising areas in Tihany. The vineyard, which is located in the vicinity of Dávid Bökő's family vineyards, turned out to be very promising, so much so that it completely overwrote the varieties and proportions of the previous favourite blend. The 2020 vintage was made from 66% Kékfrankos and 33% Cabernet Franc, fermented in open vats, followed by skin contact for two weeks and daily punching down. Then without pressing, the free-run wine was aged in 225-, 300-, 400-, and 500-litre barrels for a year. A riper, warmer Tihany red wine was made, with aromas of rosehip, raspberry and red berries. The characteristics of the two grape varieties can be recognised on the palate as well, such as the dynamic acidity of the Kékfrankos and the spiciness and paprika note of the international variety.
