“I started with this plot in 2006,” says Gyula about his defining village wine, which he harvested from Fekete Hill, close to the winery. This, his own plot, has been cultivated organically for years, and owing to its south-facing aspect, it’s been a tradition to start the harvesting of the village wines from here. In 2021, this day happened in mid-September. The selected grapes were picked from 49-year-old vines, the must from them was transferred to the winery’s four used barrels without pressing. Spontaneous fermentation lasted for two months, followed by ageing on the lees for half a year, before the wine was bottled in the early summer. The structure of the wine is meatier than usual with soft flavours and serious substance.
