According to chief winemaker Zsolt Liptai, the 2020 vintage was an excellent year for white wine, and the Sauvignon Blanc is the “favourite of the vintage”.
It was made from the crop of two vineyards, harvested on several dates: the Ravaszd gives the greenish-grassy flavours; the Széldomb the tropical, riper notes.
Two types of technology, the larger part of the wine was made with reductive white wine vinification, while in the case of one-third of it, the must was fermented together with the grapes. The whole of the wine was aged for almost three months on fine lees in the tank before it was bottled.
Besides the cooler than usual acids, riper flavours also appear in the wine that is full, layered and varietal but is by no means an average Sauvignon Blanc – the way we are used to from the Arch Abbey.
