We know true Somló enthusiasts, but we have rarely met someone as passionate as Sándor Baráth. With a background in chemistry and ties to Szombathely, he began working with wine in his late 30s. As a merchant, he immersed himself deeply in the subject, and from 2002 he led the development of the Kreinbacher Birtok estate.

After he was elected president of the Somló wine community, one thing remained – to make his own wine on the hill. The Baráth Borműhely was launched with the 2020 vintage on a total of one and a half hectares on the southern side of Somló, in the Apátsági vineyard. A recurring wine in our selection is his Juhfark, which turned out particularly well in 2022: straw-yellow in colour, with black tea and herbal notes. Organically-grown grapes, spontaneous fermentation in used barrels, followed by one year of ageing in large, well-used, 20-hectolitre barrels. Bottled unfiltered and unfined, with minimal added sulphur.
