A new bottling has arrived of the Kreinbacher’s rarely mentioned light red wine. The reason why it’s a new bottling and not a new vintage is that a blend of several vintages was put into the screw-cap bottles at the Somló estate. This time, the larger part is 2018 Kékfrankos, which is complemented by 10% of the iconic Somló Syrah, along with Bordeaux varieties. It’s a modern, everyday red with cool and primary notes reminiscent of whole-bunch fermented Kékfrankos, along with Syrah’s deep and spicy character, eucalyptus and stalk notes. The larger part was aged in tanks, with 40% aged in the winery’s used Burgundy and larger, five-hectolitre barrels. A lively and balanced, medium-bodied red with just as much of a twist that it still remains within the comfort zone.
