One of the personal favourites of Sándor Mérész, the cellar’s chief winemaker, is a permanent fixture in the Kúria's offering. It is typically made from Kékfrankos and Merlot, which is always supplemented by a little Pinot Noir. The two main grape varieties come from the winery's Sopron vineyards, while the Pinot Noir originates from the Etyek-Buda region. After gentle destemming, the wine is fermented for 14 days on the skins in tanks, followed by spontaneous malolactic fermentation. Ageing takes place – 80% in tanks and 20% in Hungarian, 3- to 4-year-old, 300-litre oak barrels for 8 months. The wines are blended as the final step. It has a vibrant ruby colour, aromas of blackberries and cranberries, a touch of clove and liquorice on the nose. The palate has red berry fruits, accompanied by some spices and hibiscus.
