A Cabernet Sauvignon with a richer and riper character, harvested from the finest vineyard along the shores of Lake Fertő, from the old vines of the Spern-Steiner. The manual-harvest was followed by spontaneous fermentation and then 10 months of ageing in 225-litre barrels. It is varietally pure and elegant, with a softer texture, thanks to the subtle use of oak. A wine that can be aged for a long time, revealing new flavour notes characteristic of the particular vintage, with each passing year.
For Sopron, for the wine land - Conversation with Enikő Luka
BT: What was the vintage of 2007 like? Which grape was favoured the most by the weather? LE: We had beautiful weather, very much sunshine; we did not have to be hurry in the vineyard. Perhaps the weather favoured the merlot and the cabernet sauvignon the most but every grape made return for the continuous sunshine.
BT: Do you have personal favourite from the wines? LE: Maybe the zweigelt since my father was also known as the viticulturist who could make real nice zweigelts. On the other hand I think this is the grape can really make return for the care. But it is difficult to highlight only one grape. It is like as if you asked me of my five children which one I love the most.
BT: Why did you decide on making wines from only one grape instead of blendings? LE: Most of all because I think slowly the trademark or the fantasy name can sell the wines. I would not like this at all. In my opinion someone who really pays attention to the wines, knows the grapes as well, so through these wines I can introduce Sopron and this wine land as well.
BT: This year your new cellar and the tasting room were built. LE: We are a little cellar, for us it is a real huge result that we have now a coolable and heatable cellar. The building itself was built on a land which is a part of the World Heritage; we strived to take into consideration this fact. Most of all I can describe it as a particular mix of a village peasant house and a little church. We formed the tasting room in order to be able to overlook to the maturing space with the barrels through a big glass wall on the one side, on the other side we can see Lake Fertő. For me it is symbolic: from beside of our table in the same time we can see the wines and the whole we are working for. Since first of all we are working for Sopron, the wine land.
