"What is Barbár like for us? It’s cohesive, hard to take apart, yet layered, easily recognisable and tied to the cellar. In the classic sense, it’s a big wine, but we don’t always think of it that way, as it has a fruity character, is especially easy to drink, and can be enjoyed in almost any situation.” – Zoltán Heimann Jr."
Today, the foundation of Barbár still comes from the first plantings on the Porkoláb-völgy ridge: Cabernet Franc and Merlot with classic Bordeaux clones. These vines produce small, delicate grape bunches with a rich and concentrated flavour profile.
Tannat also plays an important role in the blend. This characteristic French Basque variety, with its pronounced tannins and acidity, provides the wine with extended ageing potential and a firm structure.
In 2006, the recipe was expanded with a new element: Kékfrankos. This variety adds lightness and liveliness to Barbár, gently loosening its structure.
The 2019 composition: 43% Cabernet Franc, 20% Kékfrankos, 19% Merlot, 18% Tannat.
