The 2020 vintage of Szívem is a unique imprint of the exceptional heritage of the Szekszárd wine region, originating from the southeast-facing terraces of the Baranya Valley, planted in 1969 with Kékfrankos vines, which are now over 50 years old. This 1.3-hectare, low-yielding parcel of 3,775 vines produces deep and complex wines that precisely convey the terroir’s distinctive characteristics. The genetic diversity of the old vines ensures the wine has a finely nuanced texture and structure, which is vibrant and well-suited for long ageing.
The winemaking process is entirely natural, with spontaneous fermentation using the grapes' native pied-de-cuve yeasts, preserving the vineyard’s unique microflora. During fermentation and maceration, 20%-40% of whole bunches are used to maintain the taut tannin structure and vibrant fruitiness typical of the Kékfrankos variety. Ageing takes place in neutral Hungarian oak barrels, concrete tank and clay amphoras, supporting the purity of the aromas and texture, with minimal use of sulphur dioxide to ensure natural stability. After 10-15 months of ageing, the wine is bottled without filtration or fining.
In the glass, Szívem 2020 reveals refined fruitiness and bright acidity. The first sips express purity, which deepens with time, unfolding increasingly rich layers. The wine balances the silky character of the old vines with taut acidity, while the finely structured tannins provide a long, persistent finish. The name ‘Szívem’ (meaning ‘My Heart’) reflects not only the special value of these old parcels but also the Heimann family’s deep commitment and respect for the vineyard.
