Szálka, a quiet outpost of the Szekszárd wine region, known for its light Kadarkas, steep ravines and loess soils, is home to the namesake Lajvér stream. Following its course lies one of the most modern estates in the region. The vineyard layout is striking and unique within the region: the 27-hectare estate is divided into four blocks and 31 terraces. The few-metre elevation differences between the terraces act as true boundaries, turning these small parcels of just a few rows each into distinct places of growth with their own character. Beneath the terraces runs the estate’s underground winery, where everything is designed around gravity-flow winemaking.
For years, we’ve been blending this elegant and well-matured rosé together with Lajvér, which is available exclusively at the estate and through Bortársaság. A unique ratio of Syrah (70%) and Pinot Noir (30%), fermented and aged solely in stainless steel tanks, on fine lees. A rosé with the soul of a Sauvignon Blanc, which is full of green herbs, elegant fruit and grapefruit notes. On the palate, it’s silkily round, flavourful, fresh and complex.
