The term primarius is of Latin origin, meaning ‘primary’ or ‘foremost’. In the winery’s interpretation, it refers to the blend of the finest harvests from Syrah plots situated in various vineyards. This wine is only made in exceptional vintages, and the 2019 edition is made from grapes harvested from the Alsónána, Gurovica and Várdomb vineyards. After controlled fermentation in tanks, the wine was aged for 15 months in 225-litre and 500-litre first-, second-, and third-fill barrels. It has a deep ruby colour with a garnet rim, and the nose exudes blackcurrant, tobacco, pepper and eucalyptus. The palate reveals elegant spiciness, soft tannins, rounded acidity, ripe fruit notes and an endless finish. We rarely use the words ‘sophisticated’ and ‘great wine’ together, but in this case, it is certainly warranted.
