Our current favourite from the Vida selection is this single-vineyard Kékfrankos, in which the estate’s flagship plot (Hidaspetre) meets its signature variety. If you're looking for the velvety softness, plush fruitiness and juicy flavours that define Vida wines, this bottle captures them in their purest, most effortless form. The estate's largest contiguous plot lies in Hidaspetre, the northernmost valley of Szekszárd. It consists of two parcels lying opposite each other – one yielding a cooler character, the other a warmer profile, both planted with a mix of Hungarian and Austrian clones. At the winery, after cold maceration, the grapes are whole-bunch fermented in 300-500-litre Hungarian oak barrels. "We adore the peppery, spicy notes typical of Kékfrankos, so we harvest this variety just a few days before full ripeness," says Péter Vida Jr.
