Growing grapes here is a real struggle every year. The soil is made up almost by pure stone, green serpentine and dolomite. Compared to the average three years, it took six years for the young vines to finally start yielding here. Furmint grows on two-thirds of the nearly one-hectare plot of bush vines, and the rest is shared by Kadarka and Kadar – which is what Ernő calls the rare variety that was planted here. The destemmed berries are fermented for nearly two weeks in open vats, and after pressing, the wine was aged for two years in barrels and half a year in tanks. It was bottled in June 2022 without filtering. It’s a heavy, dense and thick wine with great energy, lively acidity, a colour three shades deeper than the other wines. Blue fruits appear on the multi-layered palate, with fine tannins, ripeness and lingering flavours. Grand cru in Szerémség. A total of 222 bottles were made of it.
