Although the Boda vineyard, located near Sátoraljaújhely and the Slovakian border, was first mentioned as a vineyard as early as the 14th century, it’s rarely heard of today. This is perhaps our northernmost Tokaj wine, with a cool climate, volcanic soil and over 100-year-old vines, in line with its historic past. The grapes from the 0.3-hectare plot were harvested by hand in late September, fermented to dry under controlled conditions in the tank, leaving 3.9 grams of sugar and 7.4 grams of acidity. The ageing is rare and unique: it took place in a 440-litre acacia barrel. Only 320 bottles have been made of it, exclusively in magnum bottles. A firm Furmint with oaky overtones.
„Maybe this special vintage was necessary so that after 13 years myself and Bortársaság could get to know each other again. The vintage made it obvious that something is happening in the world that both nature and winemaker should adapt to. The starlings knew what their task was: they arrived a month early, and we started the harvest at the beginning of September, instead of the usual end of October. One can only make good wine in big freedom, and a credible estate wine is only made if people stand behind it and the place of growth verifies them. This is more and more important in my thinking.”
