The 2023 Eszter, a szamorodni, marks a new chapter in many ways: not only because it beautifully continues the sweet wine character already well-known at the winery, but also because it introduces a new dimension alongside it. The 137 g/l of sugar and 6.7 g/l of acidity work in perfect balance, but the wine’s complexity now comes from elsewhere as well: a subtly bitter, tea-like note adds depth, layers and weight. Those who remember will know that László Alkonyi always emphasized how important this bitterness is in sweet wine. Here, it is truly perceptible, and it’s what makes the Eszter not only fine and harmonious but also exciting and layered.

„Maybe this special vintage was necessary so that after 13 years myself and Bortársaság could get to know each other again. The vintage made it obvious that something is happening in the world that both nature and winemaker should adapt to. The starlings knew what their task was: they arrived a month early, and we started the harvest at the beginning of September, instead of the usual end of October. One can only make good wine in big freedom, and a credible estate wine is only made if people stand behind it and the place of growth verifies them. This is more and more important in my thinking.”
