This flagship dry Furmint from the Tolcsva estate bears the name of the village's most outstanding vineyard. Its volcanic andesite bedrock, interspersed with semi-precious stones, nurtures pre-phylloxera Furmint clones grown as bush vines on old stocks. The vineyard’s steep slopes, inaccessible to machinery, require the dedication of manual labor and horse-drawn tools, preserving centuries-old traditions. After gentle pressing, fermentation took place in new French oak barrels and oak barrels crafted by the Miklóssy cooperage in Erdőbénye, followed by 6 months of ageing. This complex single-vineyard wine captivates with its pale lemon hue, and intricate and remarkably elegant aromas of white peach, green herbs and citrus. The pronounced minerality and terroir expression are unmistakable. The flavours vividly explode on the palate, with the linear acidity enhancing the apricot, citrus and bitter orange marmalade notes. Full-bodied, spicy and mineral. Deep and long, with the trio of acidity, salinity and ripeness in exceptional harmony.
„2011 was the opportunity to make the ideal dry white wine. The grapes were so healthy that they were smiling at you. This is the 13th vintage of our dry estate wine, yet we learn something new from nature every year. The most important thing we’ve experienced in the past ten years was balance. The precise timing of the harvest, but even more giving full concentration during the time of fermentation. For me fermentation is the most important time, the most significant part of a wine’s life and one that I supervise throughout. That’s the crucial point: when the grape becomes a wine.”
