A rarity from Tokaj, in a magnum Aszú bottle. Perhaps the region’s most widely exported wine, often referred to simply as the ‘Blue label,’ is the Royal Tokaji 5 Puttonyos Aszú. This, its more serious, fuller counterpart, the 6 Puttonyos Aszú, can most easily be recognised by the elegant gold trim on its label, and with the 2019 vintage, it was produced in magnum format for the first time.
A classic Aszú vintage in Tokaj, with abundant botrytis. The first-class, hand-picked berries were macerated for two days in fermenting must, after which the gently pressed wine was aged for two years in used 300- and 500-litre barrels in the estate’s ancient cellars. The final blend was put together in the spring of 2024 and bottled in October 2024. Full-bodied, spicy, with orange peel aromas, this is a traditional Aszú style rich in fruit, with apricot and yellow melon notes. The large-format bottle further extends the ageing potential of this already virtually timeless Aszú.
