One of the most pleasant surprises of our Hárslevelű tasting was this wine. Saci Bárdos’ wines are always friendly, gentle and are made for long ageing. In this case, however, due to the earliest harvest of all time (they were already selecting the grapes for the single-vineyard wines at the end of August), the overall picture is exceptionally balanced even in this – measured by Tokaj standards – youthful age. The Barakonyi Hárslevelű has a long palate, the nose is more floral than stony with thyme and linden. It’s complex and exciting. The palate is full of energy and minerality, its acids are lively, yet it’s a wine to be enjoyed. Made from organically grown grapes, the wine was spontaneously fermented in the used Zemplén oak barrels of the small family winery in Bodrogkeresztúr.
