Oporto, Kékoportó, Portugieser – three names, one grape variety. It arrived in Villány along with Swabian traditions and has since remained a fruity red that can be enjoyed in generous sips throughout the wine region. Bortársaság also took part in the 2024 harvest! We dreamed up a special collaborative wine with the Günzer winery, whose concept was inspired by the Swabian traditions of the wine region. We built on this idea in the winemaking process as well: we envisioned a traditional, spontaneously-fermented, really approachable Villány wine. When we proposed the idea of a collaborative wine, we drew inspiration from long-standing traditions, and Zoltán Günzer immediately thought of his grandfather.

His memories gave the final push to create the collaborative wine. The Bocor vineyard is a natural amphitheatre, with a southeast-facing slope, capturing sunlight and warm air. The Kékoportó vines planted in 2006 are now 18 years old.

Harvesting began in mid-August: the bunches were hand-selected and destemmed, then after gentle crushing, they were placed in open stainless steel tanks. After spontaneous fermentation and malolactic conversion, the wine was transferred into 500-litre, third-fill Hungarian oak barrels.

We harvested together with the Günzer family, we were present during the tasting from the tank, as well as before the wine was racked into barrels. We followed the fledgling wine’s development until February, when it reached its final form and was bottled unfiltered. On tasting, the wine shows warm tones, porous tannins and earthy notes, with plum and plenty of spices. Denser and leaner than expected from the variety. Rustic, ripe character, yet still drinkable in generous sips. Only 15 hectolitres were made of it, yielding just 2,000 bottles.
