Gábor Kiss has made many memorable red wines during the 10 years or so that we’ve been working together. Around 2015, he became engaged with a red blend that goes beyond the ones he had already made. Talent and opportunity eventually met in 2017, and a blend made from Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and a touch of Kékfrankos, which had been missing until then, came into being. It became the Missing One. It was harvested with a half a kilo per vine yield, spontaneously fermented, then aged in new, 500-litre French barrels for 18 months. It’s enchanting and elegant, dense and sophisticated, even at this youthful age. Hardly more than a thousand bottles were made of it, in a limited quantity, but it’s available in our wine stores.
