The Petrera family played a historic role in the Primitivo grape variety finding its home in Puglia. The winery bears the nickname of the founder's son, Filippo, who was called Fatalone, meaning 'heartthrob'. They grow grapes on only 8.5 hectares, their vineyards lie 385 metres above sea level, near Gioia del Colle. They have been practicing certified organic farming since the turn of the millennium.

This is the fourth vintage from which we have ordered some from Pasquale Petrera's estate. Just like the first time, we found Primitivo's most profane character, its most honest face. It was fermented with its own yeast, aged for half a year in steel tanks, before it was bottled unfiltered and spent another half a year in the bottle. Dark fruits, ripe, deep aromas, notes of balsamic vinegar, cloves and almonds. It’s an authentic wine from a local legend.
