The Petrera family played a historic role in the Primitivo grape variety finding its home in Apulia. The winery bears the nickname of the founder's son, Filippo, who was called Fatalone, meaning 'heartthrob'. They grow grapes on only 8.5 hectares and their vineyards lie 385 metres above sea level near Gioia del Colle. They have been practicing certified organic growing since the turn of the millennium.
This year, for the first time, we brought in the estate’s more mature Primitivo as well, in which we found the most profane character, the most honest face of the variety. Just like the other wines of the estate, this one was fermented with its own yeast with maceration, and after pressing, it was aged for a year in large barrels, then for another year in tanks and half a year in bottles. 100% organic, self-cultivated Primitivo, from an authentic place of growth, from authentic producers.
The primary, deeply fruity, mulberry and sweetish character is complemented by mature, deep aromas, balsamic vinegar, clove and almond notes.
