The legendary Super Tuscan blend. It comes from the Solaia, which is a 20-hectare, southwest-facing vineyard, the hottest point of the Tignanello estate, with rocky, calcareous stony soil known as Albarese. It is only made in exceptional vintages. In 2019, it’s made up of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Sangiovese and 10% Cabernet Franc. It spent 18 months in new French barrels.
Solaia 2019 is rich, intense and elegant. It has a deep ruby red colour, the impressive nose has intense notes of dark, ripe fruit: sour cherry, blackcurrant and fresh mint. The palate is refined and spicy, complemented with aromatic white pepper, roasted cinnamon and cocoa. It’s soft and velvety with lively tannins and a long finish. Decanter: 97 points, James Suckling: 98 points.
The family’s wine history spans 26 generation since 1385, with novelties that defined the wine world, a network of estates on 1,000 hectares in Tuscany and Umbria, wine, brandy, grappa and olive oil. Books could be filled with the family’s history, and today they are one of Italy’s largest wine enterprises.
