Solaia is a legendary Super Tuscan red wine and the name of a 20-hectare parcel located on the Tignanello estate. The vineyard is southwest-facing and is situated at an altitude of 350-400 metres above sea level, comprising rocky soils with layers of alberese (hard limestone) and galestro (clay- schist). The Antinori family first made this wine in 1978, initially blending 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc. A few vintages later, a third black variety, Sangiovese, was introduced to the blend to give the wine a unique Tuscan character by combining the elegance of international grape varieties with the distinctive personality of the local grape.
After the harvest, the wine was aged for 16 months in new French barriques. Each parcel and variety is aged separately before being blended and returned to barrels to further refine its softness, fragrance, identity and character.
An intense ruby-red colour with violet tints. The nose is remarkably complex, revealing aromas of ripe blackcurrant, blackberry and plum, interwoven with mint and white pepper spice. The palate is rich, enticing and vibrant, with an outstandingly balanced structure. Silky tannins carry through to a long-lasting finish, marked by a lingering aftertaste of dark chocolate nuances.
Considered to be among the greatest vintages of all time, receiving 97 points from both James Suckling and Robert Parker.

The family’s wine history spans 26 generation since 1385, with novelties that defined the wine world, a network of estates on 1,000 hectares in Tuscany and Umbria, wine, brandy, grappa and olive oil. Books could be filled with the family’s history, and today they are one of Italy’s largest wine enterprises.
