The Fronti family has been working with the land, the grapes and the harvest for many decades. They’d already been growing grapes for big-name estates and had olive orchards; therefore, they knew exactly which hillsides were worth investing in. The fruit of their labour is the Istine vineyard, which they eventually purchased in 1982, and it also gave the name of the estate. Despite the good conditions, they didn’t bottle their own wines for a long time – until 2009 they sold them to larger estates. That was the time when Angela returned home as a trained winemaker. The organic growing, the style and the fame of the wines can be linked to her.
Their most important wine is the Chianti Classico – most of the grapes for it come from the Istine vineyard, next to the cellar, while the rest is blended from the crop of other plots, depending on the vintage. After spontaneous fermentation and pressing, it is put into 10-20-hectolitre Slavonian barrels until the next harvest. The outcome is a floral, rich and lively wine that’s a really modern Chianti.
