Lodovico Antinori first heard about the piece of land in western Tuscany, which is close to the coast, from Dante Scanavino, who was the director of the legendary Ornellaia estate at the time. The view opening out to the Tyrrhenian Sea, all the way to Corsica, as well as the complex soil (silty, sedimentary and in some places with high clay content, rich in minerals) are all ideal for Cabernet Franc. Further, it was not difficult to convince legendary French wine consultant Michel Rolland to be a part of the story. An important part of the wine's character is the higher proportion of Cabernet Franc, complemented by Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Precise fermentation is carried out in steel tanks, followed by 15 months of ageing in new French barriques. It’s a deep, powerful, complex, great wine from one of the living legends of the wine region.
