The first vintage of the most important wine of the Antinori family was made in 1928. In 2018, 90 years later, the vintage was balanced, free of extremities and warm. After destemming, it was fermented in tanks, then in the case of the Sangiovese, the malolactic fermentation happened in tanks, while it occurred in small barrels with the Bordeaux varieties. The final blend was aged mainly in large barrels for about a year and a half. Ripe plum on the nose, black berries, balsamic vinegar and the kind of eucalyptus coolness that has always characterised the wine. Cherry, delicious fruits and tobacco leaf appear on the palate, with a powerful finish.
The family’s wine history spans 26 generation since 1385, with novelties that defined the wine world, a network of estates on 1,000 hectares in Tuscany and Umbria, wine, brandy, grappa and olive oil. Books could be filled with the family’s history, and today they are one of Italy’s largest wine enterprises.
