The first bottle of one of the Antinori family's most famous wines was made in 1928. More than 90 years later, in 2022, the vintage was balanced, free of extremes and warm. The autumn weather also favoured the development of the grapes, and the harvest began in the second half of September with Sangiovese, concluding in the second week of October with Cabernet Sauvignon. The Sangiovese underwent malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks, while the Cabernet was transferred into second- and third-fill oak barrels. The individual batches were blended, then underwent further ageing, primarily in large oak barrels, until the end of spring 2024. It presents itself with a brilliant ruby-red colour. On the nose, layered aromas unfold: blackberry and raspberry mingle with tobacco tones, liquorice, candied orange and cocoa powder. On the palate, silky and supple tannins guide each sip, which is perfectly balanced – a full and velvety opening gives way to a long, refined finish, accented by hints of rose petal and black tea.
The family’s wine history spans 26 generation since 1385, with novelties that defined the wine world, a network of estates on 1,000 hectares in Tuscany and Umbria, wine, brandy, grappa and olive oil. Books could be filled with the family’s history, and today they are one of Italy’s largest wine enterprises.
