In Marlborough's wine history, Cloudy Bay's Pinot Noir is a true milestone: in a region previously dominated by one-dimensional Sauvignon Blanc, the variety has found a new home, and beyond expanding the selection, it has become one of the cornerstones of the New World Pinot style. From the finest pickings of the southern Mustang, Delta and Barrack vineyards in the challenging 2022 vintage, this Pinot Noir was macerated for 21 days in the gravity-fed winery, and then following malolactic fermentation, it underwent 11 months of ageing in French oak barrels (30% new). It showcases an undeniable New World style with Old World touches: the expressive nose is smoky and gunpowder-like, with rose petals and cherries, while on the palate it already displays polished tannins, berries, subtle oak spices and vanilla. A sensual example of the New World Pinot style, with many years of ageing potential.
One of Marlborough’s first wineries – established in 1985 – which put New Zealand on the world wine map. It harvests Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, among other varieties, from the best vineyards and rare parcels from the plantations of two emblematic wine regions – Marlborough and Central Otago.
