In 1974, New Zealand's first vintage of Sauvignon Blanc was created thanks to the Spence brothers, quickly putting both the variety and Matua Valley on the global wine map. Lands & Legends, made from selected parcels in Marlborough, is an even more layered example of the variety. Night harvesting, rapid and controlled vinification in a cooled environment, all aimed at preserving freshness. Lively, rich and crisp, with notes of citrus, gooseberry, tropical fruits and flinty minerality on the finish. Vibrant acidity and explosive fruitiness elevate this New World classic to a higher level.
New Zealand’s first bottled Sauvignon Blanc was made by Matua. The rest is history – the common success story of Sauvignon Blanc and New Zealand. The winery that works in several New Zealand wine regions, makes distinctive wines – besides Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir also plays a key role.
