The grapes come from the older vines of the Wairau Valley, from the warm, gravely soils of the Motukawa, Widow's Block, Estate and Brook Street vineyards. Winemaking is slow and meticulous. After four to five months of fermentation with local yeasts, it was aged for 15 months on fine lees in French oak barrels before the final blending. It’s a complex and attractive wine. White flowers, hay, stone fruit and citrus fruit appear on the nose. The palate shows peach, pear and subtle brioche flavours.
One of Marlborough’s first wineries – established in 1985 – which put New Zealand on the world wine map. It harvests Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, among other varieties, from the best vineyards and rare parcels from the plantations of two emblematic wine regions – Marlborough and Central Otago.
