Vinho Verde is the wine region on the northwest tip of Portugal, where refreshingly lively white wines are made thanks to the ‘air conditioning’ effect of the Atlantic Ocean. The ‘Dócil’ is Loureiro grown on granite, which, along with Alvarinho, is the leading variety in the wine region. It was spontaneously fermented in steel tanks, and spent five months on fine lees, without malolactic fermentation. It’s pronounced, invitingly fruity and minerally cool at the same time. Lime, green apple, white flowers on the nose, accompanied by a definite saltiness on the palate. Despite its freshness, the new vintage has a denser, deeper structure than last year. The palate is full and round. An exciting yet easy-to-love wine.
