After the impressive first encounter (La Florens 2018) and the two red blends introduced since then, we couldn’t stop ourselves from bringing in a fourth wine from Josep Grau's estate, and as an exception – it’s a white.

In the beginning, Joseph only made wine for his own consumption, without sulphur, in a completely pure way. He only gave a few cases to the local restaurants, to have it on the spot when his family had lunch there. It was an accident that a Swedish sommelier happened to be given a glass of it when he was there. That’s when Josep's winemaking career took off, and his wines made from old-vine Garnacha quickly became popular, and by today, he’s become a household name in Montsant, the appellation that surrounds Priorat like a ring.

Granit can be regarded as the white partner of La Florens, as it’s also a single-vineyard wine and the variety here is also 100% Grenache – more precisely Grenache Blanc. The 2.5-hectare parcel that’s overlooking the sea is divided into three terraces, the soil is pure granite, and the vines are over 40 years old. The organically cultivated grapes are picked by hand. At the winery, the must of the destemmed and pressed grapes was spontaneously fermented in 20-hectare Stockinger barrels, and then aged for 9 months together with the lees.

Apricots, ripe apples, white flowers and green herbs. The palate is mineral and deep, rich in details and long.

Josep Grau

In his estate that was launched in 2003, Josep Grau made wine initially just for himself, and only gave a few cases to local restaurants. It was an accident that a Swedish sommelier happened to get a glass of his wine, when he was in one of those restaurants. That’s when Josep’s wine career took a serious turn.
