The celebrated Priorat wine region is encircled by its secretive neighbour Montsant. Until now, whatever we’ve brought in from there has started to spread by word of mouth the next day, thanks to Josep Grau's winery. There, too, the landscape is defined by long-established terraces, on which Bonsai-shaped Grenache and Cariñena vines line up, old and beautiful. For Vespres, the two local varieties are blended from such parcels with a little Syrah, and the new vintage is a worthy continuation of the wine we fell for last year. It remains memorable in the way that it continues to flow effortlessly with each sip.
Organic cultivation, manual harvest, spontaneous fermentation in concrete vats, ageing in Stockinger barrels and finally, bottling without filtering or fining.
In his estate that was launched in 2003, Josep Grau made wine initially just for himself, and only gave a few cases to local restaurants. It was an accident that a Swedish sommelier happened to get a glass of his wine, when he was in one of those restaurants. That’s when Josep’s wine career took a serious turn.
