Originating from the slopes of the Sierra de Cantabria in the Rioja Sonsierra region, Macán Clásico is deeply rooted in local traditions. The culture of grape growing has lived on in this region for centuries, and this wine is a true imprint of that knowledge and heritage. A deep, complex and refined wine that reflects the freshness, fruitiness and elegance of its terroir. The 2021 vintage was exceptional, yielding healthy, fresh and juicy grapes with taut skins and full flavours. This is the second year that Garnacha has been included in the blend, adding even more excitement to the overall profile. The favourable vintage, along with the winery’s technological and professional advancements, made the Macán Clásico 2021 more convincing than ever: a bright style, freshness, energy and elegance in every sip. The harvest was carried out by hand between September 19 and October 7, with the grape bunches picked into small 12-kilogram crates to preserve the integrity and aromas of the fruit.

The vineyards cover 100 hectares around villages such as San Vicente de la Sonsierra, Labastida, Ábalos, Navaridas and Elvillar, at an average altitude of 483 metres above sea level, where the 30-year-old vines are deeply rooted in the soil. The yield is deliberately low, at 4,300 kg per hectare, which produces approximately 30 hectolitres per hectare of concentrated, expressive raw material. The backbone of the varietal composition is Tempranillo, complemented by a small amount of Garnacha in the blend. During ageing, the wine spent 12 months in oak barrels, followed by 18 months in bottle before being released – bringing about refinement of style and harmony.

The Macán Clásico 2021 is already unfolding beautifully, but under optimal conditions, it can be aged for up to 15 years. It shows its best side at 18°C, quietly yet confidently telling the story of Rioja, a family collaboration and how tradition can be shaped into elegance and freshness. This exceptional vintage, combined with the winemaking team’s ever-deepening expertise, makes the Macán Clásico 2021 more outstanding than ever.
