The patient winemaker might wait up to 20 years, and the current vintage of Gran Reserva is from 2001. During these years, other wineries are being built, they change styles several times, or even change their owners. The current Gran Reserva is a blend of 70% Tempranillo, plus Graciano, Garnacha and Mazuelo. The processing is the same method as that of the Reserva – after the destemming of the berries, the varieties are co-fermented on the skins, then the mix is poured into barrels at the deepest point of the cellar. The main thing comes after that: the wines stay here for 10 years, they are moved twice a year, at which time they are decanted from the barrels and clarified with their self-produced egg whites. It was bottled unfiltered in 2011, and released from the cellar in 2021. It would be difficult to single out one detail from such a complex world. This wine is the greatest of the authentic and oxidative Riojas.
