Keeping the tradition of many great French estates, Opus One has also been making a second wine since 1993, called Overture. The aim during vinification is to make Opus One and as part of the rigorous selection process, some wines are left out. These wines spend more time in barrels, and are even combined with several other vintages to achieve the elegance and complexity that shows the estate style. This is Overture. Barrel spices appear on the nose, with cinnamon, anise and blackberry. The palate brings black pepper, ripe tannins, good acidity, cocoa and exciting sourness on the finish. It’s a full-bodied, big wine that’s not pushy. (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec.)
