Based on the Bordeaux example, since 1993, Opus One has been producing a second wine named Overture. In terms of the vineyard work, there’s essentially no difference between the first and the second wine, as Opus One material goes into the bottle. As part of the very selective blending process, some batches are left out, and these parts spend additional time in barrel, even with a combination of several vintages, to achieve the elegance and complexity that reflect the style of the estate. This is the Overture. It’s a blend of the five varieties used in Opus One: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec, aged in French barrels.
